On March, 14th -15th AVSI took part in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Senior Meeting held in Brussels and hosted by EU Development Commissioner Andris Piebelgs. The two-day conference brought together representatives from SUN Movement countries, donors, UN agencies, civil society, academia and the business community to ensure that nutrition remains at the top of the international development agenda.
The meeting focused on two key topics: nutrition in the post-MDG environment and the development of a sound accountability framework to improve the way of tracking investments in nutrition and assessing the impact of nutrition interventions. Furthermore, sessions on crucial themes such as the role of agriculture in nutrition security, funding mechanisms for nutrition and the potential involvement of the private sector were also included in the meeting.
AVSI participated in the event as member of the Panel of Experts of the European Commission, which has recently worked on the drafting of the EU Communication “Enhancing Maternal and Child Nutrition in External Assistance”, that was launched within the meeting.
AVSI has a deep-rooted experience in the field of nutrition in several third countries, in particular in Haiti where, in the framework of the AQUAPLUS project implemented in partnership with Rotary International Distretto 2040, Rotary Club Milano per Milano Foundation, EXPO 2015 and Unicredit Foundation, AVSI supports the development of ready-to-eat therapeutic foods from locally available resources such as Akamil fortified with Moringa Oleifera, combining the latest scientific research with tradition to achieve optimal nutrition for the youngest children.
