Present in Mexico since 1987, AVSI is currently working with civil society organizations to promote the participation of citizens in the country's public development policies and to contribute to the peace building process.
Founding members
Partners
AVSI has been operating in Mexico since 1987 with local partners in the states of Oaxaca, Puebla, Guerrero and Campeche. AVSI is currently developing socio-educational and educational projects, with training for educators and civil society organization, generating spaces that promote the participation of citizens in the country's public development policies and pace building in Mexican society.
Since 2019 AVSI México A.C. has been established as a Mexican organization.
Sectors of intervention
Education
Reconizing the education role model of school professionals, graduates’ educators, teachers and teaching staff are trained to become real "agents of improvement" of the whole community in which they work.
With the construction of classrooms after the earthquakes of 2017 in the state of Oaxaca, AVSI provided safe educational spaces, which allow access to quality education.

Energy and environment
Through a master’s program led with the Mario Molina Center, teachers of the Istmo de Tehuantepec area learn how to address the climate change topic in the educational path of the new generations, to make them aware of the value of environmental protection. Also the community is involved through workshops that promotes knowledge and practices of sustainability, nature care and community prevention of environmental disasters.
Contribution to: SDG 4 quality education; SDG 7 affordable and non-polluting energy; SDG 11 sustainable cities and communities.
Citizen participation
AVSI works for social cohesion in Mexico, strengthening the capabilities of Civil Society Organizations; promotes citizen participation in local development policies and inclusive governance, creating dialogue networks and communication channels among different social actors.
Contribution to: SDG 10 reduction of inequalities; SDG 16 peace, justice and strong institutions; SDG 17 alliances to achieve the objectives.
Social cohesion
With a citizen participation project, AVSI promotes and fosters the culture of peace in different regions of the country, raises awareness on population about the benefit of working together to achieve the construction of the common good with forums and cultural events.
Contribution to: SDG 16 peace, justice and strong institutions.
Socio - educational and nutrition
With the contribution of Distance Support program AVSI cooperates with the partners Crecemos DIJO A.C. in Oaxaca, the Centro de Solidaridad Juvenil in Campeche and AVSI México A.C. in the implementation of nutritional, education, personal development, school support, hygiene and sports programs together with minors, their families and their communities.
Contribution to: SDG 2 zero hunger; SDG 3 good health and well-being.
International Adoptions
AVSI is officially accredited in Mexico for international adoptions.
AVSI in Mexico is part of the AVSI Latin America Network, which with its partners and subsidiaries operates in Brasil, Ecuador, México, Peru, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile. The Network cooperates with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, working with more than 30 years of experience in the region.
