In the country since 2011, AVSI has been supporting the Congolese population through sustainable development projects in the areas of socio-education, health, energy, environmental protection and agriculture
In the Republic of Congo AVSI works with the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, Education, Hydraulics, Promotion of Women and Justice, in the city of Pointe-Noire and in the rural areas of Kouilou for the development of the Country and the communities.
Protection of the rights of vulnerable people
The project "Kutelema na kuniokuama ya ba kento - Let's stand up against the abuse of women", aims to promote and protect the rights of vulnerable people and groups, in particular women and girls who are victims of violence in the sub-prefectures of Hinda, Loango and Madingo-Kayes.
Co-financed by the European Union, it operates in three areas:
- strengthening the organizational, operational, financial and project management capacities of eight Congolese civil society organizations;
- the dissemination of information on human rights and women's rights, on gender equality and on gender-based violence (GBV) through local and mass awareness-raising, as well as radio and other artistic forms;
- support for victims of violence and their medical, psychosocial and legal care in collaboration with local integrated health centers and partners Tayuwana Association and Reflection Group Against Gender-Based Violence (GRCVBG)
Access to education
The "BETO DIKISSA L'ECOLE" project is funded by the World Food Program (WFP) and provides school canteen services in five primary schools in the villages of the Hinda district: Kondi Mbaka, Ntangou Fouana, Tandou Milomba, Siala and Malélé to reduce the school dropout rate and improve student learning performance, as well as strengthen the participation and skills of local communities in the development of children and schools.
Indeed, the local community participates in the implementation of the project through the supply of agricultural commodities on credit, the supply of water and wood and the preparation of meals by women volunteers. To date in the Republic of Congo, the AVSI Foundation has been able to distribute more than 34,000 meals.
Access to safe water and dissemination of good sanitation practices
Thanks to the project "Strengthening the supply of drinking water and the practice of hand washing to accelerate the response to COVID-19" funded by UNICEF, seven primary schools on the outskirts of Pointe-Noire, including fifteen school waves, have drinking water points and access to water and 10,000 students have new knowledge on hygiene and the practice of hand washing, to accelerate the response against COVID-19.
Since July 2015, in partnership with ENI Congo, AVSI has been working within the framework of the PIH (Integrated Hinda Project) to improve the socio-economic conditions of 22 villages in the Hinda district (Kouilou department). The project intervenes in the fields of education, agriculture, environmental protection, hygiene and health.
