I would like to extend warm greetings to those participating in the celebratory event of AVSI's 50th anniversary.
AVSI has carried out valuable work through the implementation of a variety of projects to help those most in need across all continents. It has constantly reaffirmed the centrality of the human person as the protagonist of fair, sustainable and inclusive development, for the benefit of the individual and the community in where he or she lives.
In the current global context, inequality has grown. The terrible war unleashed by the Russian Federation in the heart of Europe and other serious factors of instability have brought complex challenges to the international community. These challenges can only be addressed effectively by acknowledging the strong interdependence that characterizes the world today.
This situation calls for effective multilateralism and international cooperation capable of designing and coordinating timely and long-term responses.
AVSI's experience reminds us that the Italian Republic has always expressed a broad heritage of solidarity, and that it will indeed be possible to contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development without leaving anyone behind.
I wish to offer my heartfelt congratulations to AVSI and its volunteers for these past fifty years of activity, and extend my warmest wishes.
