AVSI at Codeway Expo 2024

A multi-stakeholder dialogue on the Mattei Plan and a photo installation taking place at the development cooperation fair in Rome, May 15-17

Mozambico

On Thursday 16 May, at 10 am, AVSI presents the event "Mattei Plan: Success cases to scale and critical issues to address. A dialogue among institutions, civil society and the private sector" within the Codeway Expo 2024, at Fiera di Roma. The event will be attended by representatives of Italian, European and African institutions, as well as of the civil society and private sector.

Codeway Expo is a development cooperation fair lasting from Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 May. Within this time it will also be possible to visit the photo installation "TOGETHER. The future we want", curated by AVSI. This visual journey consists in pictures taken by photographers who visited AVSI projects in the field, focusing on education and job training, which are also priority sectors for the Mattei Plan.

The event, organized together with Fiera Roma and Internationalia, will take place in the Codeway Plenary Room and will follow two main lines: on the one hand, it aims at analyzing successful projects to understand if they are scalable, on the other, at identifying obstacles and critical issues to propose innovative solutions to counteract them and make the plan achievable.

The program envisages three panels: the first one will present four successful projects in education, energy, agriculture and support to refugees; the second one will focus on the Italian Climate Fund, while the third one - moderated by Giampaolo Silvestri, AVSI Secretary General - will be made up of African, European and Italian institutional representatives, discussing on the Mattei Plan.

If Italy is able to create a solid system, the Mattei Plan could be a great opportunity to build a new equal partnership among Italy, Africa and Europe, which is a necessary condition for sustainable development. Development can be either achieved for everyone of us, or no one. This event at Codeway Expo can be an opportunity to really work towards this goal, to encourage a new way of thinking and practicing cooperation.

Giampaolo Silvestri, AVSI Secretary General
