• Report directly to the Country Program Coordinator (1st Supervisor) and to the Country Representative (2nd Supervisor).
• Report functionally to the relevant donor/sector lead for each specific sector/donor (e.g. Clean Cooking, Climate Change / ENI) and, for this specific component, to AVSI’s TA for Advanced Cooking Technologies and to the Clean Cooking and Carbon Finance Program Coordinator

Annual goal setting and performance appraisal will be managed by the 1st Supervisor with the contribution of the relevant functional managers, namely AVSI’s TA for Advanced Cooking Technologies and the Clean Cooking and Carbon Finance Program Coordinator

Aim of the position: The main role of the Technical Advisor (TA) is to provide overall support and supervision to AVSI’s projects in Congo Rep. and in other African countries concerning advanced cooking technologies such as pyrolytic stoves and pellet production. In particular, the TA will coordinate the implementation of all the advanced cooking activities related to the project “Programme de compensation technologique du carbone: Distribution de fourneaux améliorés pour la génération de crédits carbone - Congo Rep. – Pointe-Noire” financed and implemented in partnership with a major Italian company. The TA has the key responsibility of coordinating and ensuring the successful implementation and achievement of the pyrolytic component’s targets. This initiative pursues concurrent objectives:
1. Testing the technological and social acceptability of pyrolytic cooking technologies by households
2. Testing different feedstocks/biomass for the production of pellets
3. Testing the logistical and economic sustainability of pellet distribution
4. Develop a scale-up intervention for the promotion of pyrolytic cooking and pellets production/distribution in Pointe-Noire or in other areas in Africa.

Net salary: from 1.500 to 2.00€ monthly.

Principali compiti e responsabilità

• Supervise and have final responsibility for the implementation of all pyrolytic stove and pellet component activities in accordance with the approved project proposal, budget, financial planning and schedule, in coordination with AVSI’s TA for Advanced Cooking Technologies (Matilde Amadio) and the Clean Cooking and Carbon Finance Program Coordinator (Vincenzo Gangone)
• Actively support field implementation and hands-on technical testing activities related to pyrolytic cooking technologies, pellet production processes and biomass/feedstock optimization and be responsible for the achievement of all targets and key performance indicators of the component
• Contribute to the recruitment, orientation and training of project staff
• Coordinate component staff, strengthen their capacity, autonomy and sense of responsibility, and contribute to their further professional development
• Prepare narrative reports as required by the donor and proactively support the preparation of financial reports, including the collection and verification of the relevant project documentation
• Prepare any other reports as required by AVSI, local authorities, the donor and/or the selected international standard (e.g. Verra)
• Be responsible for the application of AVSI logistics and administrative procedures for the assigned activity portfolio in coordination with the Operations Manager, Country Representative and, for any specific donor requirements, the Clean Cooking and Carbon Finance Program Coordinator
• Ensure the quality and sustainability of project results through strategic and operational planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning (continuous improvement)
• Technically support and supervise similar interventions in other African countries
• Promote linkages and synergies with other national and international projects, programs and interventions
• Maintain and develop proactive relationships with partners, local authorities and all stakeholders involved
• Periodically interact with HQ focal points to coordinate and share new strategies, innovations, lessons learned, critical issues, training opportunities, workshops, etc.
• Share the most significant experiences and lessons learned within AVSI’s worldwide network, together with the thematic focal point
• Represent AVSI in relevant sectoral coordination structures (energy and environment), including clusters and working groups, and in other meetings at provincial/national level
• Identify new funding opportunities/proposals, also with other donors and programs
• Carry out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Requisiti essenziali

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environment and/or Energy studies, Rural Development, Economics, Management, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies or other related fields of study from a recognized university
• Master’s degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.

Work experience:
• At least 2 years of experience in a development/humanitarian context
• At least 1 year of experience in pyrolytic cooking and pellets production projects in Africa.

Language proficiency:
• Proficiency in French and English (written and oral), C1 level.

Competenze ed esperienze richieste

• Experience in conducting market tests, surveys, monitoring activities, studies and projects concerning pyrolytic stove distribution and/or promotion and pellet production and/or distribution and/or promotion in Africa
• Proficient knowledge of standard IT software
• Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate and manage a diverse array of activities and stakeholders
• Report-writing and computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and Internet use.
• Experience in community-based approaches and, particularly, in behavioural change promotion towards domestic cleaner cooking solutions in sub-Saharan Africa
• Experience in working in rural economic development or business development is desirable
• Willingness to travel and also work in rural areas is desirable
