Agriculture contributes approximately 24% to Uganda's GDP and involves 70% of the active population, most of whom are young people. Many of them, however, struggle to find quality job opportunities due to the lack of adequate skills.

Since 2020, AVSI has been engaged in the Skilling in Agripreneurship for increased Youth Employment (SAY) project, funded by the Dutch Cooperation. The objective is to promote agricultural skills and create job opportunities for young people aged 18 to 30, while also supporting long-term career paths for youth aged 13 to 18. The project collaborates with 60 partners in the field, including agri-food companies, agricultural institutes, local organizations, ministries, and government agencies.

SAY has supported 9800 of the skilled youth into decent employment within the agricultural sector in Uganda. These actions are in line with Goal 8 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda: to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
