The HOPE project has concluded its Phase I with significant results.
The AVSI Foundation, in collaboration with ADRA Ecuador and ADRA Perù, carried out the first phase of the HOPE project over 12 months, thanks to funding from the European Union's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Service (ECHO). This phase was implemented in the localities of El Oro, Guayas, and Tulcán in Ecuador, as well as in Tumbes in Peru, providing access to protection services, food security, and health.
The project also includes comprehensive actions that promote food security, primary health care, protection, and facilitation of the approach between people, community and public institutions that allow access to rights. This achieves the strengthening of community environments and integration through the connection between humanitarian action, development and peacebuilding.
On September 2, 2024, the closing event of Phase I was held at the Bonsai Museum in Quito. During the event, the important milestones and achievements reached in the different components of the project were highlighted. Marcelo Cevallos, Manager of the HOPE Project at the AVSI Foundation, and Marión Pilastre, Binational Coordinator of the HOPE Project for ADRA Regional, presented the results. Among the most notable achievements, 80% of the people assisted indicated that their cases were properly managed and referred to the corresponding agencies, reflecting the success of this first phase of the project.
The HOPE project presented notable figures during its first year of implementation:
- 77,000 unique beneficiaries
- 54,200 primary health care services
- 12,000 mental health and psychological first aid services
- 31,000 food security and nutrition services
- 4,000 protection services
The event was attended by Andrej Arvenis, Director of Programs at ADRA Czech Republic; Yubari Valero, Country Representative of the AVSI Foundation; and Nahomy Faula, Country Representative of ADRA Ecuador, who shared information about each organization. The closing ceremony was led by Paulo Lopes, Regional Director of ADRA South American Division. Also present were Giovanni Davoli, Ambassador of Italy, along with his wife, Ana María de la Torre, representative of ECHO in Ecuador, and various representatives from United Nations offices."
