The BARA+ – Emploi, Dignité et Espérance project has been officially launched. Promoted by AVSI and its partners, it aims to tackle irregular migration by fostering youth employment in Côte d’Ivoire.
Irregular migration is a complex challenge affecting a significant portion of Ivorian youth. BARA+ was created to provide concrete solutions: quality training, professional integration, and job creation.
The launch event brought together institutional actors and local and international partners, including the Directorate General of Ivorians Abroad (DGIE), the Youth Employment Agency (AEJ), the National Chamber of Trades, and representatives from various ministries.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share strategies to support young people, promote entrepreneurship, and reduce irregular migration flows.
The project aims to reach 4,510 beneficiaries through:
- training for 450 young people in qualifying trades
- creation of 20 start-ups and 40 micro-enterprises
- awareness-raising for 4,000 people on the risks of irregular migration
“BARA+ strengthens AVSI’s experience in preventing irregular migration through actions focused on employment, innovation, microfinance, and social protection. We place the concept of dignified and inclusive work at the center.”
Bamba Lassiné, AVSI Representative in Côte d’Ivoire
BARA+ builds on the legacy of the DIGNITÉ project, which concluded in April 2024 and involved over 3,200 vulnerable young people. Building on these results, the Italian Ministry of the Interior has renewed its trust in AVSI for this new, even more ambitious phase.
Launched in February 2025 and lasting two and a half years, BARA+ is funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior – Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration – in collaboration with Soleterre Onlus, ES CÔTE D’IVOIRE, DIFIN – SA Microfinance in Abidjan, Bouaké, Daloa, and Korhogo, often starting points for those dreaming of a future abroad.
