While the school plays a central role in learning, the family remains the child’s first educational environment. In many areas, however, a significant number of parents are still only marginally involved in their children’s schooling, often due to a lack of information or appropriate educational tools. This situation can affect academic outcomes and children’s overall development.
Within the framework of the “REUSSIR – Strengthening the quality of primary education in Côte d’Ivoire” project, AVSI promotes a series of awareness-raising meetings for parents of students, with the aim of strengthening their role in their children’s educational journey. The initiative seeks to consolidate dialogue between families, teachers and the wider learning community, fostering a more structured and continuous collaboration in support of learning processes and improved educational results.
During the meetings, attention is drawn to the importance of simple daily actions such as checking notebooks, encouraging children, supervising homework, and meeting teachers regularly, all of which can contribute significantly to academic success.
“Children’s education concerns everyone. Parents should take an interest in what their children learn at school, engage with teachers, and also accompany them at home to support their academic success,” noted one of the participants in the awareness sessions.
Through the project, more than 800 awareness meetings will be organised in the participating schools, with the aim of strengthening the skills of at least 20,000 parents in monitoring and supporting learning at home. The School Management Committees (COGES) are also involved in the initiative, ensuring continuous mobilisation of families around children’s education.
By strengthening the relationship between schools and families, the REUSSIR project contributes to creating a more conducive environment for learning and student well-being. This dynamic reflects a vision of development as an interconnected ecosystem, where school, family and community act in a complementary and integrated way.
Through this initiative, AVSI reaffirms its commitment to quality and inclusive education, where every child can be supported in developing their abilities and advancing in their educational journey, becoming an active part of their community’s future.
