On Thursday, October 24, AVSI in Abidjan participated at the Renpower Côte d'Ivoire, a major event to promote private investments in the sector of sustainable electrification, decarbonization and energy transition.
The event, held at the Azälai Hotel, was attended by leaders of the energy sector and international financial institutions, including the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of Côte d'Ivoire, the World Bank, GIZ and Expertise France. In the session "Financing Microfinance Institutions PPP Models - Mobilizing Private Sector Finance and Delivering Innovative Financial Solutions to Expand Energy Access and Facilitate Just Energy Transition", Vincenzo Gangone, AVSI expert in sustainable energy projects, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and civil society organizations to develop effective and sustainable projects.

“The collaboration between the private sector and civil society organizations generates a double-benefit partnership: civil society organizations acquire new technical skills and strengthen their capacity to operate within strict deadlines; the private sector becomes more aware of the local context and participates in the complexities of implementation,” Gangone said. “In the energy access interventions co-designed by AVSI and ENI, behind every high-quality carbon credit generated there is a vulnerable family that has seen a tangible improvement in the quality of their life.”
Gangone also emphasized the key role of civil society organizations in an inclusive energy transition, which responds to the real needs of people, especially the most vulnerable. “A just energy transition is not just about political will, industrial strategies, investments and bureaucracy,” he explained. “It necessarily passes through the acceptance and adoption of new technologies by end users, especially the most vulnerable, who will have to adapt to a new scenario. In other words, to be truly just, the energy transition requires contextualized interventions, knowledge of users’ preferences and the factors that influence their decision-making. Thanks to the holistic vision of the multiple needs of people, AVSI, like many other civil society organizations, can play a fundamental role in accompanying, supporting and informing institutional partners on the path towards concrete results for the climate.”
Renpower Côte d'Ivoire represented an important opportunity for dialogue and collaboration to improve access to energy and promote a more sustainable and inclusive future in Côte d'Ivoire and throughout Africa.
