War in Lebanon: AVSI’s Response

During the war, we assisted 140,000 people; our commitment continues in rebuilding schools, homes, and—above all—people’s hope.

Countries Lebanon
Date 20.05.2025

Between October 2024 and February 2025, Lebanon experienced one of its worst crises since the civil war (1975–1990), with devastating consequences for the most vulnerable: 244 people were killed and over 17,000 were injured.

Damage to homes, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure worsened the situation, displacing nearly 1 million people. A ceasefire was reached on November 27, 2024, temporarily reducing the intensity of fighting.

Despite the truce, some areas of southern Lebanon remain inaccessible due to destruction, landmines, and restrictions imposed by Israeli forces. AVSI has never ceased its support and, after initial emergency aid, is now committed to standing by those affected by the war. Needs remain immense.

As part of the Hope4Lebanon campaign, between September 2024 and February 2025, AVSI assisted over 40,000 people in 204 shelters across 7 governorates, providing displaced and trapped families with essential supplies: water, food, hygiene products, blankets, mattresses, clothing. AVSI also offered vital protection services for the psychosocial wellbeing of affected families, including psychological support via a hotline, awareness and psychosocial support sessions, and therapy for both children and adults.
