Today, Volodymyr Vorona, Consul General of Ukraine in Milan, visited AVSI for Community, a centre designed in Milan to respond to the needs of migrants and local communities in Italy.
The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the centre’s activities and meet the staff members who support individuals and families every day on their paths towards integration, self-reliance, and social inclusion.
AVSI for Community was established in May 2022 as the HelpUkraine Hub, in response to the needs of people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Building on the experience gained over the years in welcoming and supporting Ukrainian families, the hub has evolved into a multi-service centre open to all migrants and the wider community.
The centre offers listening and guidance services, assistance with documentation procedures, employment support, Italian language courses and vocational training, as well as social and educational activities that foster integration. AVSI for Community also works closely with institutions, businesses, and local organisations to promote tailored pathways towards autonomy and inclusion.
“It was an honour for us to welcome this visit,” said Giampaolo Silvestri, AVSI Secretary General. “From the very beginning of the war in 2022, AVSI has worked to provide practical support to people forced to flee the conflict. Over the years, the centre has grown into a place of encounter, exchange, and shared experiences, open to the whole community.”
“I would like to thank you for the work you do. You are able to respond to the many needs of the community,” said Volodymyr Vorona during the visit. “I see many connections between your work and the role we play as a consulate. We need to stay prepared and connected so that we can strengthen our collaboration in the future.”
