The JuventudES project, launched in 2020 by Fondazione AVSI, AVSI México A.C., and Junior Achievement México, in collaboration with the European Union, reached the culmination of four years of efforts aimed at strengthening the labor integration of young people in Mexico. At the headquarters of the Tecnológico de Mérida, and with the presence of public and private actors who were allies of the project, the results and a documentary showcasing the impact of this initiative on the lives of more than 900 young people were presented.

The goal of JuventudES was to train Mexican youth, aged 17 to 28, in social, emotional, and technical skills. These trainings aimed to provide them with opportunities for dignified employment and to support their holistic development within their social context.

During these four years, the project carried out various actions, including:

  • Intersectoral working groups that brought together businesses, civil society organizations (CSOs), local authorities, and academics to design labor inclusion strategies. Among the achievements of these working groups was the development of a continuity plan that included a diagnosis of youth in the state and their labor expectations, the creation of a school for parents, and the piloting of dual programs in partnership with companies.
  • Training in soft and technical skills at educational centers, where young people were trained in institutions such as COBAY and TecNM.
  • Job fairs and the creation of job banks, facilitating direct connections between young people and businesses. Three job fairs were held, offering hundreds of job openings.

Results achieved

  • More than 900 young people developed soft skills, basic competencies, and technical skills.
  • Around 500 young people secured formal employment, started their own businesses, or chose to continue their studies.
  • 100 educators were trained in coaching, principles of equal opportunities, and professional training.
  • 100 companies actively collaborated in the youth labor integration process.
  • Two intersectoral working groups were held in the Bajío and Yucatán regions, focused on promoting youth labor inclusion.

The event aimed to provide a space for dialogue among the key actors of the project, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and officially present the documentary that showcased the journey and outcomes of JuventudES.

This joint effort demonstrated that collaboration across sectors was essential for empowering the future of Mexican youth by providing them with the tools needed to integrate into the labor market with dignity.
