Launched “Mousso Djidji”, the project against gender violence in Côte d’Ivoire

The Ambassador of the European Union in Côte d’Ivoire, Francesca Di Mauro, together with the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, Moussa Diarrassouba have joined the launch of the project, on Thursday 27th

The project “Mousso Didji”, funded by the European Union with an amount of €1,594,023, was inaugurated on Thursday 27th, in Abidjan by the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, Moussa Diarrassouba.

Together with its partners – the Missionary Community of Villareggia (CMV) and the Fondation Djigui La Grande Espérance – AVSI presented the main focus of the project.

The Mousso Didji’s project: sustaining over 600 women, survivors of gender-based violence

In more than three years, the project aims to improve the situation of at least 30,000 beneficiaries, including 600 women survivors of gender-based violence, in Côte d'Ivoire, by providing holistic support that includes medical, psychosocial, psychological, economic, and legal assistance to facilitate their recovery.

AVSI will coordinate the initiative through collaboration with state actors and civil society organizations.

CMV and the Fondation Djigui will primarily operate in Abidjan, the most populated city in Côte d'Ivoire, and in the North-West region, with awareness campaigns, training, and support for survivor women. It is hoped that the local population will benefit from these initiatives and will be equipped to transform social behaviors and combat acts of gender based violence.

AVSI’s vision is to promote human development, working for a world in which every person can be the protagonist of his or her own life. With these goals, promoting gender equality becomes a primary need. Therefore, AVSI and its partners are deeply concerned about the issue of gender violence in Côte d'Ivoire. Through the collaboration and the reinforcement of local actors, we aim to develop actions that strengthen the national system, allowing for effective and comprehensive help for 600 women who have experienced gender violence.
