AVSI is an international civil society organization implementing development and humanitarian projects, choosing to care for every person according to the principles of the Roman Catholic Church’s Social Doctrine.
Here we present the highlights of our Strategic Guidelines 2024-2028, renewing our promise of development for individuals, families, communities, donors, and partners in all the countries where we work.
In 2023, the preparation of the new Strategic Guidelines 2024-2028 became an opportunity for us to begin an
in-depth reflection on the specifics of our identity and the direction of our work in the coming years. We began
a long, bottom-up participative process, structured over several stages, to promote and foster the kind of diverse leadership we strive for. Any set of guidelines so important for the life of an organization should begin with
staff discussions, listening to external observers, and engaging in conversations with stakeholders of reference.
Our commitments
- Respond quickly and in a flexible manner to global challenges while staying true to our vision, mission and method.
- Promote holistic human development that begins with the awareness of every individual of their unique value, nurturing their potential.
- Strengthen partnerships with all stakeholders, encourage their active participation and value local actors.
- Leverage field experience and data to drive change and innovation.
- Advocate for human dignity and peace.
AVSI's key words: person, education, presence, experience, community
AVSI's identity, approach and priorities are captured in these 5 key words:
Person
At the heart of AVSI's work lies the care for every person, as a part of the community. AVSI addresses their needs, aspirations, and potential across all stages of life.
Through this distinctive choice AVSI contributes to the common good and the Agenda 2030.
Education
AVSI views education as a pillar of development, regarded as a path toward self-awareness. Education guides individuals toward the discovery of their unique value, that of others, and of the world around them. First and foremost, this depends on establishing an authentic, peer-to-peer connection with someone. We promote educational pathways that go beyond literacy and numeracy, and support co-creation models that overcome paternalistic aid. To address this challenge, we choose to put a holistic human approach at the core of our project design, implementation, evaluation and communication processes.
Presence
AVSI aims to strengthen its role as a global player while maintaining strong roots in local communities, working alongside individuals to enhance their skills and build their resources. By balancing central coordination with local autonomy, we ensure effective collaboration among local partners, branches and founding members through efficient tools and processes. We are ready to adapt our organizational structure to guarantee unity and efficiency, optimizing roles, decision-making and internal communication processes.
Experience
Operating in diverse fields such as education, peacebuilding, agriculture, migration, and environmental protection, we adopt an integrated and innovative approach in our interventions to tackle the emerging challenges posed by digital transition and artificial intelligence.
In our work, we seek the active participation of all stakeholders, fostering transparency, community engagement and collaboration with donors, partners, and local organizations. We conduct risk analyses, promote co-creation processes and we are open to learning from our experiences to inform our advocacy efforts.
Community
AVSI believes every person is part of a broader network of relationships within families and communities. By promoting collaboration with beneficiaries, donors, partners, and local organizations, we enhance the quality and effectiveness of our work, contributing to the sustainable development of local communities. We cultivate strategic partnerships with enterprises and organizations eager to invest in the future, engaging both long-standing and new-generation donors.
