Child Protection Department

The child protection case worker oversees and supports cases of displaced children at medium to high level of risk, ensuring they receive timely, appropriate services. This includes conducting assessments, providing emotional support, referring to specialized services, and safeguarding case-related confidentiality. The role also ensures the case management system is functional and adheres to national Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These activities will be conducted inside the selected shelters and outside them in BML area, ensuring a localized and accessible approach to supporting at risk displaced children in the region. If needed and depending on the circumstances, services may shift to remote modalities or a blended approach, combining in-person and remote support to ensure continuous care and support for the children.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Implementation:

• Conduct visits when necessary and appropriate.

• Support the PSS facilitators and shelter staff in the identification of children at risk or child survivors and in receiving referrals for case management.

• Conduct assessments and prioritize cases based on the level of risk.

• Provide individual case management for children in accordance with case management steps, tools, and procedures.

• Develop case plans that respond to the child's needs, harm, and build on the strengths of the family and child.

• Ensure the provision of emergency cash assistance for the most vulnerable children, according to the needs of the child, the agreed criteria and the internal procedures and under the supervision of the supervisor.

• Monitor, follow up, and review cases according to established timelines.

• Participate and collaborate in recreational, psychosocial, awareness activities conducted inside or outside the shelters when requested by the supervisor.

• Support the child protection team in conducting psychosocial support (PSS) activities both inside the selected shelters and remotely when needed, ensuring that vulnerable children receive continued emotional and psychological support.

Collaboration and coordination:

• Coordinate with other CP team members, shelter staff, and local stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to child protection and caregiver support.

• Participate in regular case discussions and coordination meetings to share insights and improve the quality of services provided.

• Work closely with all partners and actors to ensure proper referral pathways in the area of intervention and build a network with all actors working around implementation gateways.

• Actively coordinate with the MEAL department to ensure the effective monitoring and evaluation of child protection activities mainly the case management component. This includes regularly sharing case data, assisting in the development and implementation of monitoring tools, and ensuring that accurate documentation is maintained.

• Support the MEAL team in collecting feedback from children and caregivers, ensuring accountability mechanisms are in place, and integrating lessons learned into case management practices to enhance the quality and impact of child protection interventions.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Ensure proper documentation and compilation of case management forms in line with case management steps, tools, and procedures.

• Adhere to Data Protection Protocols and Information Sharing Agreements while preparing and submitting reports.

• Write weekly reports that compile case load data, analyze trends, identify challenges, and provide recommendations.

• Provide weekly updates to the supervisor, outlining progress on cases and activities.

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate actively in all mandatory trainings and workshops provided by AVSI and/ or the sector to improve knowledge and skills.

• Participate in the development of technical documents, presentations, and reports and documenting achievements and lessons learned.

• Perform other duties within areas of responsibility as requested by the supervisor.

Essential Requirements

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social sciences, or relevant field.

Work Experience:
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in case management for at-risk children in emergency response settings within the NGO sector, with strong knowledge of gender-based violence (GBV) and its impact on vulnerable children.

Languages:
• Arabic mother tongue, excellent English and proficiency in French

Required skills and experiences

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

• Strong documentation, research, and report-writing skills.
