In Sierra Leone, the multi-donor partnership Energising Development (EnDev), implemented by AVSI, has launched a project aimed at fostering market growth for improved cook stoves in the rural and urban districts of Bo, Kenema, Pujehun and Western Area.

The project's objective is to enhance the capabilities of local stove producers (15 local companies and 4 start-ups) through the improvement of their skills and the expansion of their capacity.

The selected stove producers have undergone comprehensive training in both the technical and marketing aspects of stove production. They have also been provided with the appropriate start-up materials to meet the growing demand for improved cook stoves in their respective communities.

The project includes a strong focus on behavior change strategies to increase awareness and adoption of clean cookstoves in the community of the targeted districts. These activities include focus group discussions with community stakeholders, road shows, open mix events, community dramas, jingle rentals on various community radio stations and school sensitization campaigns aimed at educating community members about the benefits of using the cook stove and its positive impact on the environment.

Through close collaboration with local stove manufacturers and the implementation of innovative and educational strategies, AVSI in Sierra Leone and EnDev are confident that this project will enhance access to a clean, efficient, and sustainable cooking solution, while also contributing to improvements in the health and well-being of families involved.
