"Back to the Future" is a regional program, funded by the EU ‘Madad Fund’ and implemented by a consortium of four international NGOs composed of AVSI, Terre des Hommes Italy, Terre des Hommes Netherlands and War Child Holland. Overall, the 3 years’ project aimed to support around 22,000 refugee and local vulnerable children through educational activities in Lebanon and Jordan.
Between 2016 and 2019, ‘Back to the Future’ project in Jordan supported over 2,700 Syrian and Jordanian children through educational activities and the rehabilitation of 15 public schools. Free-of-charge transportations, homework support and remedial classes allowed a higher number of children to attend and stay in school, avoiding dropouts. In addition, the rehabilitation works set a foundation for a much-improved learning environment for students. Educational initiatives delivered in the two educational community centers of Az-Zarqā and Aqaba were possible thanks to the partnership with the local NGOs Soldier’s Family Welfare Society and Harmony.
On June 16th in Amman and 18th in Beirut, representatives from the local communities and municipalities, the EU Delegation, the Ministry of Education, school directors, and the project consortium participated in the closing ceremonies of the “Back to the Future” project. In both the occasions it was celebrated the success of the initiative, following 30 months of educational activities in support of local Jordanian and Lebanese families and Syrian refugee children.
