The World Health Organization declared Sierra Leone free from Ebola transmissions on November. Ernest Sesay, president of the Family Homes Movement, AVSI's partner in Sierra Leone, was awarded on Friday l8th December 2015 by the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs, "in recognition of its role in the fìght to contain and eradicate the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Sierra Leone".
From the beginning of the Ebola outbreak emergency in Sierra Leone, AVSI has been active with its local partner, the Family Homes Movement (FHM), in promoting awareness campaigns, distributing water, food and non-food items to quarantined households and street children, supporting the reintegration of survivors and children in their communities, providing education for children and interim care to orphans due to EVD.
