AVSI became one of the Global Nutrition Cluster partners

Date 29.05.2017

On April 12, 2017, AVSI Foundation became one of the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC) partners. Coordinated by UN OCHA and led by UNICEF, GNC was established in 2006 as part of the UN Humanitarian Reform process. GNC aims to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian response programs by ensuring greater predictability, accountability and partnership.

“To become a GNC partner is a sign of recognition. It gives us a privileged position on the theme of nutrition, and recognizes AVSI as a NGO technically capable of leading nutrition projects that take place in the context of emergency, ” explains Chiara Nava, AVSI Humanitarian and Nutrition Advisor.

GNC is comprised of partners, such as the World Food Programme (WFP), Save the Children and Red Cross International, as well as observers, like Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and the National Nutrition Coordinators (NCC). At the global level, the GNC has over 32 partners actively involved in GNC activities and 8 observers. Because of the important work done over the years in humanitarian and emergency situations, AVSI is now officially recognized as a partner. In the last ten years, AVSI has managed nutritional projects in Nigeria, Haiti, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Brazil, in partnership with WFP, DG ECHO and UNICEF.
