Meet the protagonists of our project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to mitigate the health and the socio-economic impact of the pandemic in Lombardy, one of the region most affected in Italy.
Alberto recovered from COVID-19, but his muscles had atrophied. He needed a long-term treatment and rehabilitation plan. For the last six months, Alberto has been treated remotely by a group of physiotherapists thanks to one of the 12 telemedicine kits AVSI donated to Sacco Hospital in Milan.
Letizia used to share a device with her three brothers to attend online classes. After receiving one of the 150 tablets we delivered to the Portofranco Association of Milan, she was able to manage her study time better.
Gayan used to work in an Italian restaurant, but the COVID-19 outbreak affected his job greatly: even feeding his family became hard. He is one of the 12,000 people who received AVSI's food package. The kit helped him, not only economically: every time he would pick up his package, Gayan would also hear words of encouragement and hope.
