Venezuela. Building skills for reconstruction
With your donation, you can help provide 120 adults in Caracas and La Guaira, areas affected by the 2026 earthquake, with vocational training in plumbing and building painting.
Following the earthquake that struck Venezuela on 24 June 2026, many people lost their jobs. Reconstruction needs will persist for a long time, in a context marked by a gradual reduction in available resources and international aid. In the two areas hit the hardest by the earthquake, AVSI and its local partner Trabajo y Persona are providing vocational training to 120 adults experiencing socioeconomic vulnerability, helping to revive local economic activity.
Participants will receive training in plumbing and building painting, two skills that are particularly in demand for the repair and renovation of buildings damaged by the earthquake.
Alongside technical training, the programme will include activities focused on career guidance, business management and the development of entrepreneurial initiatives.
Throughout the six-month training programme, participants will also receive nutritional assistance and the work clothing they need.
At the end of the programme, all participants will be asked to present a business idea. Everyone will receive certification of the skills acquired, while the 20 participants who develop the strongest business proposals will receive professional equipment to start their own businesses.
The project also includes the renovation of two educational facilities: the San Martín de Porres Training Centre in La Guaira and the San José Obrero Technical School in Caracas. The work will improve spaces used by more than 500 students.
