The war in southern Lebanon continues to affect the daily lives of thousands of families. In the Marjayoun district, near the southern border, many children attend school in areas that have been hit by airstrikes since 2023, with two escalations in September 2024 and February 2026.

Others have been forced to leave their villages and relocate to the Saida district, far from home, interrupting their education and becoming separated from their classmates and teachers.

In this context, AVSI aims to ensure access to education for children who remain in their villages and those who have been displaced.

In Marjayoun, AVSI has been working with four public schools for years. Thanks to the donations received, children will receive school supplies, while teachers will be provided with teaching materials for classroom activities.

In Saida, where many families from destroyed or occupied villages have found refuge, AVSI coordinates the Teaching & Learning Hub, a centre established by the Ministry of Education. The Hub offers catch-up learning programmes and psychosocial support activities for children and adolescents whose schooling has been interrupted or who are coping with the effects of displacement.

Particular attention is given to children with disabilities and learning difficulties, through inclusive educational programmes and access to specialised services tailored to their needs.

The project also includes psychosocial support activities for children and their caregivers, helping them cope with the trauma of war, displacement and separation from the lives they knew, including loved ones, work, farmland and home.
