Ivory Coast, support to SMEs for better management of forest resources

The FAO-EU FLEGT Program supported the AVSI Foundation to implement a project entitled "Promoting legality and good practices in sustainable management by setting up a framework for exchange and training among EU customers, exporters and small and medium-sized enterprises in the Côte d'Ivoire". This video produced by the project presents the challenges faced by SMEs and the solutions proposed by the Voluntary Partnership Agreement to secure and legalize their activities and ultimately improve the management of Ivorian forest resources.

The project

The main target of the project is to promote legality and good practices in sustainable management by setting up a framework for exchange and training among EU customers, exporters and small and medium-sized enterprises in the Côte d'Ivoire

The project aims at reaching four main goals:

  • To improve local SMEs’ ability to enhance raw material (Partner Federlegno Arredi will send experts from Italy to Ivory Coast to provide training)
  • To improve the operators’ overall understanding of international market needs and to enhance producers-custumers relationship in order to counterillegal deforestation.
  • Provide visibility to the project and share results and lessons learned.
