UNIDO and AVSI: a key alliance for sustainable development

In June 2013, the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development in Vienna (UNIDO) granted consultative status to AVSI. UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. Its mission rests on three main thematic areas: development of productive activities, trade capacity-building, energy and environment.

AVSI, believing that alliances and interdisciplinary approaches are needed in order to face the new challenges of an ever-changing world and that the centrality of the person, innovation and entrepreneurship are key elements in creating a sustainable and inclusive development, considers UNIDO’s priorities as a essential part of its work.
AVSI’s long experience in poverty reduction through income generating activities, vocational training, inclusion of young people in the labour market, agricultural development, access to energy and development of local actors, shows why partnerships among different players such as institutions, the private sectors and research centers are increasingly crucial for an effective development cooperation.
In this framework, AVSI believes that it is important to cooperate with UNIDO by sharing experiences and know-how and contributing as Civil Society Organization engaged in the field that is as “last mile” to reach each and every person.
